Design of impulse high-current generator using the IMC simulation program

The paper presents the design and development of a program for calculating parameters of an impulse high-current generator. The program is called "the IMC program". The evaluation of the impulse current circuit parameters is computed using the normalized calculation technique for the final optimum parameters. The main advantages of developed program are that it is less time consuming and more convenient for designing parameters. The IMC program provides two options: the requirement of rating energy with rated current input and the requirement of capacitance value and charging voltage input. This program can be applied for capacitance value varied from 0.1 /spl mu/F up to 10.0 /spl mu/F and charging voltage from 10 kV up to 100 kV. The typical wave shape for impulse current is defined by the front time (T/sub 1/) and the time to half-value (T/sub 2/) Four standard impulse current waveforms 1/20, 4/10, 8/20 and 30/80 /spl mu/s can be selected to determine the circuit parameters of generator. Additionally, the IMC program can be used for studying impulse current characteristics when resistance and inductance or another parameters of impulse current circuit are varied. In this paper, the results of the IMC program are compared with the results obtained from the laboratory tests and PSPICE simulation are related to the IEC-Publication 60-1 [1] standards.
