Porous silicon as a therapeutic biomaterial

Silicon, the dominant semiconductor, has not been actively developed as a biomaterial, despite the attractiveness of chip-based microsystems for therapeutic applications. There is now both in-vitro and in-vivo evidence that silicon surfaces can be engineered to have bone-bonding potential, and that highly porous silicon can be biodegradable in the human body.
