Reconfigurable Universal Buck-Boost PFC with Ultra Wide Input Voltage Range

Due to the ever increasing demand for the power supplies compatible with different international standards and voltage levels, wide input-voltage power factor correction (PFC) converters have become essential. The input voltage of a traditional PFC converter is 85-265Vrms, but a very wide input universal range (85-530Vrms) is needed in some applications. In this paper, a new universal non-inverting bridgeless PFC rectifier is proposed to realize an ultra wide input with improved power factor and efficiency. The proposed converter has the capability of changing the topology of the converter from the conventional bridgeless buck-boost to the voltage doubler bridgeless buck-boost PFC structure. The proposed converter has been analyzed completely and the analysis and simulation results are presented. Also a 1kW laboratory prototype is implemented to test the operation of proposed rectifier in the whole input voltage range, and see the influence of parasitic elements on the performance of the proposed converter. The experimental results are shown, and it is compared with the other universal PFC converters.
