From spectacular engineering marvels to everyday tools, women have been credited for various clever creations. In recent years, local and international engineering organizations have taken the initiative to to promote the field of engineering to women and encourage them to pursue a career in technical disciplines. Although a large sum of money has been spent to attract women to the field of engineering by outreach programs and recruiting initiatives, the fact remains that the number of female engineers has not increased over the past few years. The question of "why" must be answered. A detailed discussion of why female engineers quit their career in later years and also why more young graduates are moving away from engineering is presented in this article.
