Mobile network traffic forecasting

This paper deals with network traffic prediction for the purposes of managing the mobile network through the process of maturation. As traffic levels increase the requirements on network resources become stretched to the point that grade of service (GoS) requirements are not met. The solution to this is the deployment of additional network hardware be it transceivers, underlay cells, or new macro or micro cellular installations. The tool presented in this paper can accurately predict areas of low GoS, or future 'hot-spots', in a multidimensional manner (for instance to allow for different management or billing strategies) and indicate the appropriate hardware deployment plans required.
