Computer simulation study of primary and secondary anode loading in magnetrons

The author's previously described (1988) computer simulation code was used to analyze the type 2J32 magnetron. Agreement between calculation and measured data was poor when the analysis was restricted to the annular anode-cathode region. Computed efficiency and generated power were high, and the Gauss line showed no evidence of a current boundary. The simulation was improved by accounting for electrons passing into the gaps between the anode segments. Allowance for emission of secondary electrons from these segments provided much improved agreement, showing an upper limit to the anode current-the upper boundary of the Gauss line. This limit appears to be imposed by electron loading of the diodes formed by adjacent anode segments. The 2J32 magnetron is a hole-and-slot magnetron in which this anode loading is pronounced.<
