Fiber ultrasonics for health monitoring of composites

The testing results presented validated the proof-of-concept hypothesis that the waveform attributes of an ultrasonic wave propagated through a suitable fiber ultrasonic waveguide embedded in an E-glass/epoxy FRPC coupon can be effectively used to: detect and monitor changes related to cure state and cure behavior; and, detect and characterize damage conditions resulting from discrete source impacts in composites.
