Parallel Computation using Event-Triggered Communication

Numerical simulations of physical phenomena governed by partial differential equations using parallel computing requires communication of data between processing elements. Time spent for this communication is a major part of overall simulation time on large scale systems and often becomes a bottleneck. In this paper, we propose an event-triggered communication scheme to alleviate this bottleneck. We model the system as a switched dynamical system and establish its stability. Experiments on a parallel cluster show that the method has potential to reduce simulation time while guaranteeing convergence to the correct solution.
