Managing large terrain data sets with a multiresolution structure

We propose an algorithm to build a modular multiresolution terrain model consisting of a collection of patches that can be loaned and combined together in order to cover a portion of the domain. This method allows the management of huge data sets that would not fit in main memory as a whole.
