Optimal electromagnetic shielding design considering multiple constraints

Practical shielding design requires one to optimize the electromagnetic field attenuation taking into account multiple constraints such as weight, costs and dimensions. This paper proposes a formulation of this procedure in form of an unconstrained optimization problem, its numerical solution by means of the modified Price's algorithm and the validation of the results by comparison with known ones. Various shielding configurations are analyzed and from the optimization results, some design rules are drawn.
