Concepts of modeling the effects of ESD in electronic systems

A basic two-body problem using spherical conductors is solved using Maxwell's equations. The model is used to predict the electrostatic discharge (ESD) characteristics of two types of electronic systems. The same technique can be used in multiple-body problems if the capacitance coefficients are measured. The theoretical analysis is presented and the method is applied to determine the ESD susceptibility of a typical system.<
