Impact Study of 5.8GHz WiFi to 5.9GHz LTE-V2X in Vehicle Environment

LTE-V2X is an emerging technology for Internet of Vehicles, enabling vehicle to everything communication for improvement of safety and reducing accidents. Currently, the frequency band for LTE-V2X defined by 3GPP is 5855MHz to 5925MHz. China plans to allocate 5905MHz to 5925MHz for LTE-V2X. Vehicle-mounted WiFi supplies Internet access services for users inside vehicles. The 5.8GHz WiFi operating in 5735MHz to 5835MHz may cause interference to LTE-V2X. This paper presents the impact study of 5.8GHz WiFi to 5.9GHz LTE-V2X in vehicle environment through deterministic analysis and system level simulation. Results show that when the distance between two vehicles is less than 465m, the decoding performance is effected by the spurious interference of WiFi; otherwise, the spurious interference of WiFi has no effect on LTE-V2X. The SNR of LTE-V2X signals degrades about 7.41dB in the presence of spurious interference of WiFi.
