Enabling a Powerful Decade of Changes [Flyback]

The 10th anniversary of the IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE) in 2018 coincided with a decade of unprecedented shifts in technology for generating, delivering, and converting power. This electrification shift, coupled with the advent of smartphones and the beginning of the Internet of Things (IoT) era, has produced an explosive growth of electronification in the industrial, consumer, and automotive markets. A critical enabler for the progressive development in electrification and electronification has been the power semiconductor. According to IC Insights [1], more power-management integrated circuits (ICs) are shipped than any other type of IC device. The breadth of applications for power-management ICs corresponds with an impressive expansion in the features and capabilities of power semiconductors to address this widening scope of end-equipment needs.
