A novel method for recognition of point sources (antenna arrays)

Some calibration and focusing techniques for antenna arrays assume availability of point sources that radiate spherical wave fronts in free space. In practice, point sources and free-space propagation can only be approximated. Descriptions are given of technique and a decision criterion that provide a means for testing the radiation or reflection from a source to see if it acts sufficiently like a point source to permit accurate array focusing. The physical meaning of this procedure is described, and the proposed approach is demonstrated by simulation examples.<>
