Modeling and Performance Analysis of Renewable Sources Under Islanded DC Microgrid

This paper presents modeling and analyses performance of the renewable energy sources under islanded DC microgrid. Various converters are used in the DC bus with proper power conditioning through different control strategies. A direct driven permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) based wind energy system (WES) and Photovoltaic (PV) systems are implemented as energy sources. To enhance the efficiency of the system and to capture maximum power from the system, Hill climb search (HCS) algorithm and incremental conductance (IC) methods are used for WES and PV system respectively. Battery is used as an energy storage device in this islanded DC microgrid to reduce intermittent fluctuation and improves reliability in PV/Wind system due to varying atmospheric conditions. A 16 kW PV/wind system under DC microgrid is simulated in the MATLAB/Simulink. Performance analysis shows that the system is feasible and can be utilized in rural/remote areas more efficiently.
