LSI chip set for closed caption decoder system

The authors have developed an LSI chip set for the decoder of the closed caption system to be installed in all TV sets with 13-inch or larger screens in the US, beginning in July 1993. The basic policies of the system development were as follows: the system must provide stabilized receiving operations; the system should offer low-cost operation; and, the system must be easily adaptable to different types of TV receivers. A closed caption decoder system consisting of three chips, front end, on screen display, and decoder, has been found to ensure reliable reception at low cost.<
