Field experiments of a high mobility and broadband mobile communication system based on a new multicode transmission scheme for future intelligent transport systems

A wireless transmission prototype, which can transmit multimedia information data with a maximum transmission rate of 4.608 Mbps at 5.2 GHz carrier frequency band, is developed by a newly proposed multicode transmission. The proposed multicode transmission scheme has high robustness for a high-speed multipath fading environment by using the cyclic extended and shifted M-sequence. Field experiments were performed in the outdoor experimental test course for intelligent transport systems in order to confirm the transmission performance. From the measured results in the field experiments, it was confirmed that 4.608 Mbps real-time data transmission is realized between base and mobile stations at the maximum vehicle speed of 80 km/h. The principle of the developed prototype and the transmission characteristics obtained from the field experiments are described.
