My Friendship with Bruce Francis: Some Recollections [Historical Perspectives]

I first met Bruce in the summer of 1976, when he came to Cambridge University as a postdoctoral researcher. He had a prestigious two-year NSERC Fellowship from Canada, the first year of which he spent at the University of California at Berkeley hosted by Charles Desoer. The second year was spent at Cambridge hosted by Alistair MacFarlane. I was one year into a Ph.D. program, and Alistair was my supervisor.
