What's in a Name? [Associate Editor's View]

Social scientists who specialize in andragology (adult education) study social interaction. Andragology, as a university degree offering, started in the late 1960s from an idealistic perspective: social interaction seems to be an essential element in everybody’s life. Within a few years, thousands of students crowded the lecture halls and received their bachelor’s or master’s degrees, just to find out that society had little need for andragologists. Within two decades, the specialization reached a peak and disappeared. Discusses how the study of social interactions benefits engineering education.
