Optically controlled high-speed switching of a power transistor

Pulsed phototransistor switches using profiled optical drive have been extended to control power transistors. The principle has been tested using the criterion of switching several hundreds of watts. With low-cost LEDs and phototransistors for the optical isolation, power output switch times well below 1 Ms have been demonstrated.
