A compact Ka-band secondary surveillance radar transceiver system

This paper presents a Ka-band secondary surveillance radar transceiver system module. Temperature compensated technique is adopted to stable the transceiver's performance. A MEMS filter and four multifunction chips based on GaAs technique are designed in this work. The transceiver system consists of these multifunction chips and MEMS filter beside with some other commercial chips. Mixers and filters are reused to reduce the system's size, which makes the system be suitable for the large-scale system integration. Furthermore, the system only has two signal terminals and one control bus to reduce the interconnection complexity. The transceiver is able to work form -55^oC to +75^oC, benefiting from the designed temperature compensation circuits on the chips. The noise figure of the receiver is less than 3.7 dB with more than 23.9 dB power gain. The maximum output power of the transmitter is larger than 30.3 dBm.
