PSO and firefly algorithms based control of BLDC motor drive

This paper proposes two population-based optimization algorithms: Particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm and Firefly algorithm (FFA) for tuning PID controller parameters of BLDC motor drive. Population based algorithms have number of advantages over classical methods for solving complex optimization problems. For two algorithms brief description, main equations for solution and flowcharts are given. The BLDC motor drive system is modelled in Matlab/simullink. The simulation results of two algorithms are compared by time domain performance parameters such as steady state error, rise time, settling time and peak overshoot.
