Photoelectric current in cryogenic liquid mixtures

The ratio of photoelectric current J/sub L/ in mixtures of liquid nitrogen (LN/sub 2/), liquid argon (LAr), and liquid methane (LCH/sub 4/) to that in vacuum J/sub V/ was measured for a wide range of electric field strengths E. From the analysis of curves of J/sub L//J/sub V/ vs. E, the electron mobility mu in LN/sub 2//LAr and LN/sub 2//LCH/sub 4/ was estimated as a function of mol fraction of N/sub 2/ X/sub */, where *=N/sub 2/; mu decreased exponentially with X/sub */. The liquid temperature at a saturation vapor pressure of 0.1 MPa, the normal boiling temperature, and the enthalpy change for vaporization were obtained.<
