Finite element study of induced Emf, cogging torque and its reductions in BLDC motor

BLDC motors are being used widely due to their many advantages. In BLDC motors, the performance of motors is known by the induced emf. Torque pulsations arise due to the Cogging torque which results in vibrations and noise. Hence it is necessary to determine induced emf and minimize the cogging torque in a BLDC motor. In this paper, FEMM software which is based on Finite Element Method is used to determine induced emf along with using DFT and IDFT operations and cogging torque. The various steps to be followed to determining cogging torque are detailed.
