Impact of the delay tolerance in wireless sensor networks: Bufffer occupancy and energy consumption aspects

Wireless Sensor Networks have altered our way to collect scientific data and acknowledging our environment. They are network of low power self-sufficient node that can achieve any given task and sense diverse phenomena (Temperature, Humidity). Wildly used in the battlefield, wildlife tracking, and vehicular communication, they allow people to connect without setting up expensive or impossible network infrastructure. The performance analysis of WSN's plays a key role in understanding their design and behavior because of the lack of network resources as they have less energy and memory to buffer transit messages. Therefore, it is important to exploit these resources efficiently. In this paper, we present analysis of three different routing protocols under four movement models with nine Time-To-Live (TTL) values for a simulation of ten hours each. We give details concerning the impact of the delay tolerance to the buffer occupancy, energy consumption of the nodes under three hundred twenty-four different scenarios.
