Optimization of LEACH method using distribute nodes and cell clustering

Wireless sensor networks are a special type of mobile networks which collect information about their surrounding zone and transmit them to the base station. In such networks, it is not feasible to charge the node batteries. Therefore, the methods proposed for such networks should be efficient in terms of energy consumption as far as possible. LEACH (Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) algorithm consumes less energy than the traditional methods; LEACH is fully distributed, it is not necessary to have detailed information about the whole system. In this paper, an algorithm using distributes nodes and cellular clustering has been proposed to optimize head cluster selection. The advantages of this method include its self-organizing feature and the feasibility of identifying the dense zones for the purpose of optimizing the clusters. This reduces the load in the dense zones. The obtained results showed that the new method has better efficiency than LEACH static and LEACH mobile sink algorithm in terms of decreasing the dead nodes and improving the life span of the network.
