Research and application of illumination processing method in vehicle color recognition

Accurate recognition of the vehicle color plays an important role in the intelligent transportation systems, and it can make up for the lack that license plates are blocked and corrupted. However, one of the challenges of vehicle color recognition is illumination. In this paper, three kinds of methods are used to process the images, aiming at improving the recognition accuracy of the vehicle color. In order to reach a better result, different methods of processing images and parameters are used for different types of images, so as to improve the accuracy of color recognition, which are different from the previous methods. Experiments show that the method in this paper is better than that of the existing methods.
