Radar methods of measurement bathymetry

This paper presents a review of different methods to measure the hydrographical parameters of the sea surface. Different approaches to determine the hydrographic parameters such as the current surface velocity vector, water depth, and calibrated full-directional wave spectrum by processing of a sequence of images obtained by means of navigation radar and optical observations were developed up to date. Proposals for the practical implementation of the methods under consideration are presented. The first (so called global) method is based on the analysis of the luminance spectrum computed by the block module of the three-dimensional fast Fourier transformation that operates with image sequences. The Disk method analyzes non-uniform image sequences of a dynamic and dispersive surface. The algorithm produces result in the form of spatial maps of hydrographic parameters. Problems of the variability of the bottom relief are also considered.
