FPGA implementation of image enhancement technique for Automatic Vehicles Number Plate detection

In this paper, a simple and effective FPGA based image enhancement method for Automatic Vehicles Number Plate (AVNP) detection has been proposed. In this technique, image enhancement achieved by estimating optimum values of image sharpness, brightness and contrast components. One of the most challenging problems for AVNP Detection is image quality of the images captured in low light generally in the night, due to low light image got blur or noisy and may be out of focus due to movement of vehicles. Pre-processing of image is highly recommended before optical character recognition (OCR). Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) has advantage to be implement the algorithm at hardware level, that required less time to process the image compare to clock based processor and can be used for parallel processing.
