Software defined network controller: A neat solution administration for reconfigurable multi-core NoC

Networks-on-Chip (NoC) have emerged with the goal of managing the large number of cores that can be integrated into today's System-on-Chip (SoC). However, they are generally developed to offer solutions to specific applications. When new applications need to be run on them, NoC offer little adaptability, and therefore poor performance. In conventional networks, Software Defined Network (SDN) is a methodology that has shown its effectiveness in adapting the characteristics of the network, to the needs of applications running on the network, with the aim of improving its performance. Based on SDN principles, in this paper we introduce a Software Defined Network Controller that permits run time reconfiguration of the data forwarding plane in a Software Defined NoC (SDNoC), allowing the execution of different algorithms in run time. In addition, our work presents an alternative in order to reuse multiple processing cores.
