Self-Healing Services with Software-Programmed Networking

We present and discuss a control plane architecture for implementing resilience and self-healing capability in a distributed network control framework built around the "program & compile" paradigm, which leverages high-level programmability to develop and package network applications into portable re-deployable objects. We present a proof of concept by extending a software-programmed networking (SPN) OS prototype with the proposed architecture, showcasing reaction of distributed virtual services to link failure. We evaluate and discuss performance in terms of service restoration time, detailing the various components contributing to the total restoration delay.
