Study with fuzzy self-turning PID controller on idle speed controlling of automobile

As one of automotive engine's important working states, idle-speed has much relation to the engine's fuel consumption and exhaust-gas pollution level. Effective idle speed control (ISC) can improve fuel economy and reduce exhaust emissions, the principal operation of ISC is to uphold the actual engine speed very close to the set point value when any disturbance is added. Automotive engines are typical complex, nonlinear, uncertain dynamic, time-varying systems, by taking account of these characters, this paper adopts the engine dynamic equations provided by Professor Mikhail Polonski, and then sets up the simulation model. Fuzzy self-turning PID control mode is presented, this new method avoids the PID control mode's sensitivity to the disturbance, and improves the inertia of controlled system. The simulation results show that this filtering method can effectively improve the idling stability of automobile engine.
