Viability of Rat's bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells in a surfactant-induced thai silk fibroin hydrogel

The current work aimed to explore the potential of Thai silk fibroin (SF) hydrogel as a stem cell carrier. The SF solution was prepared from the Thai silk: cocoons (Nangnoi Srisaket 1) at sterile condition. The solution prepared from ultra-high heat treatment of the silk: was shown to be freed from microorganism. The SF solution was mixed with surfactants (poloxamer : oleic acid at 0.07:0.93 by wt.) at the ratio of 3:1 (SF : surfactants by wt.) and the hydrogel were formed within 60 minutes. Rats Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal sem cells (rats MSC) were entrapped in the hydrogels and were cultured in vtro for 14 days. Specific growth rate of the cells was 0.049 h

and the population doubling time was 14.16 h at 624 h of cell culture. The cell numbers were slightly decreased before entering stationary phase during day 5-14 of culture.
