Optimised application of renewable energy sources in rural electrification

Renewable energy systems are increasingly being applied in areas where grid extension is considered uneconomical. Their costs can be minimised through proper equipment sizing and load matching. This paper discusses the development of a computer program for determining the most cost effective energy source to supply the required load at any given time of the day.
