Current transformer measurements of distorted current waveforms with secondary load impedance

This paper evaluates current measurements with current transformers under distorted current conditions. Power quality assessment relies on the accurate measurement of current and voltage. Current transformers exhibit a good frequency response under distorted conditions, although this is only valid for a low impedance load on the secondary of the current transformer. The effect of load impedance on the error of measurement for different scenarios are illustrated.
