Ending the holy war between academia and business

Problems that spring from cultural differences between academia and business are close to home for the two of us. Between us, we have over 25 years in each of those communities, frequently working close to the boundary between them. We both carry a number of scars inflicted by each side. Likewise, we ourselves have looked down our noses at business and at academia. We now know something about how harmful this is, and we can give closely reasoned arguments for why and how to stop doing it.
