Research on short-circuit electromagnetic force of MV ES with different structural arrangements of ground loop

Based on theoretical analysis and experimental research short-circuit electromagnetic forces of three-phase medium voltage (MV) earthing switches (ES) with different motion forms and different structural arrangements of ground loop have been studied. And the influence of electromagnetic force under correspondent various conditions on short-circuit making performance is discussed in detail as well. The results show that earthing bus bar connected with three-phase earth moving contacts suffers a great electromagnetic force, which, however, has quite different influence on short-circuit making performance under different layout and connection of earthing loop. Accordingly, suggestions are presented on layout and structural design of MV earthing switch as future practical design reference.
