On-site application of an advanced PD defect identification system for GIS

This paper examines the identification reliability of automated partial discharge (PD) diagnosis systems for common PD defects in gas insulated switchgear (GIS) under practical industrial conditions. The influence of the reference database on diagnosis results as well as new PD evaluation tools like /spl Delta/u//spl Delta//spl phi/-pattern based on phase resolved pulse sequence analysis (PRPSA) are investigated. Especially, the abilities of the PRPSA are examined to identify PD defects with about 70-200 useful PD pulses per second near inception voltage (50 Hz AC stress).
