Treatment of symmetry in three dimensional finite element models of machines coupled to external circuits

The treatment of 3D machine problems, using the finite element method to model the field is examined. Methods for coupling to external circuits are reviewed. It is shown that symmetry can be taken care of by scaling partitions of the system matrix. The treatment of periodic boundary conditions is also examined.
