Array control systems for multicarrier protocols using a frequency-shifted feedback cavity

This paper describes an optical controller that uses a frequency-shifted feedback cavity (FSFC) to generate a large number of incrementally delayed signals to control a directional beam pattern of an antenna array. The FSFC enables the beam pattern of a large array to be controlled by the adjustment of a single system parameter. The FSFC may be used to generate carrier interference multiple access (CIMA) signals that introduce time dependence to the directionality of a transmitted beam pattern. This causes the direction of a beam pattern to automatically scan. Finally, the frequency diversity of multicarrier signals enables spatial demultiplexing of received signals in a multipath fading environment.
