Simulation of relativistic electron beams on an AP-120B

A working particle in cell simulation code has been successfully transposed to an AP-120B. The code, which on a CDC 7600 has been used to simulate cyclotron wave behavior on relativistic electron beams, is fully electromagnetic and includes all relativistic dynamics. The 2-1/2D code resides entirely in AP memory with the exception of the initialization. Cyclotron waves on relativistic electron beams have been proposed as a method of utilizing the large energies of such beams to accelerate ions to high energies. The physical phenomena under investigation will be briefly discussed, as will the mathematical algorithm used to model it. The AP version of the simulation code will be reviewed and representative results presented.
