Interoperability of biological databases by CORBA

CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) appears to be a good solution for developing and deploying applications in distributed, heterogeneous environments. This technology is being touted as the key technology for data rich molecular biology to enhance utilization, management and interoperation between its different resources located in different places. In this paper, we have discussed the significant role of CORBA in the bioinformatics area, especially in achieving interoperability and linking of biological databases and software, and designed a Java applet, which can connect to the URL and open the Web page of some important molecular biology databases on the Internet and a CORBA-compliant solver object.
