Coupled bow-tie antenna — HfO2 MIM diode for millimetre wave detection applications

In this paper, we present a millimetre wave bow-tie antenna coupled to a 8-nm thick HfO
₂
metal-insulator-metal (MIM) diode, working in the 40-100 GHz frequency range (i.e. covering the V- and W-bands). Experimental results on tunnelling properties of HfO
₂
-based MIM diodes are presented, together with the electromagnetic design of a mm-wave bow-tie antenna. The antenna is coupled to an HfO
₂
MIM diode in the gap, hence providing an electronic device with detection/energy - harvesting capabilities. The antenna is currently under fabrication, and its laboratory characterisation will be provided as soon as the first prototypes will be available.
