Improvement of the damping factor by the weight reduction damper coil in superconducting magnetically levitated bogie

Superconducting magnetically levitated transportation system has been developed. The electrodynamic suspension is used for levitation and guidance. Results of numerical simulation show that the damping factor of this EDS system is small. Thus the damper coil system is introduced to increase damping against oscillation of the bogie. This damper coil system has effect on decreasing oscillation of the bogie. However, because the weight of the damper coil is large, the energy loss increases. By changing the shape of the damper coil, the weight of the damper coil is reduced. In this paper, the running simulation of the bogie when the bogie passes the guideway displacement is undertaken. The weight reduction damper coil shows smaller the damping factor in the passive mode. But it shows larger the damping factor in the semi-active mode. The sufficient damping effect is shown by the weight reduction coil.
