Uniform treatment of different conductor types in two-dimensional eddy-current problems applied to a fast ferrite tuner

This paper deals with the numerical solution of two-dimensional (2-D) eddy-current problems. It shows that the numerical description of current-fed massive conductors is closely related to the numerical description of voltage-fed thin wire coils. With the help of this result, a boundary element method-finite element method code originally designed to deal with thin-wire coils could be applied to the optimization of a fast ferrite tuner (FFT). An FFT consists of a closed short-circuited strip line with an inner conductor covered by ferrites. The operating frequency of such a device is limited by parasitic eddy currents. This problem can be overcome by slotting the strip line. Numerical simulations have been performed to judge the effects of the slots.
