Decision making and strategic considerations in the processes of managing medical technology in US hospitals: findings from a comprehensive empirical study

This paper reports findings from a comprehensive study of over 121 hospitals and medical centers in the United States. The study examined the decision making process involving the acquisition, allocation, and replacement of medical technology (including information technology, diagnostic/therapeutic equipment and devices, and disposable). In addition, the study explored the role that medical technology plays in the hospital's strategic considerations. The paper also discusses the role of these findings in the field of MMT (management of medical technology) and their implications for further research and for practice.
