Design of miniaturizated multiple U-Slots antenna using theory of characteristic modes

Very few planar, broadband, miniaturized slot antennas have been reported till date. In this paper, a novel co-located, miniaturized multiple U-Slot antenna is designed using Theory of Characteristic Modes (TCM). The miniaturization is achieved by combining two U-Slots on the same patch and introducing narrow vertical slots between them. Vertical slots reduce the strong mutual coupling between participating characteristic current modes. The proposed miniaturized antenna exhibits optimal gain and low mutual coupling with 25% bandwidth.
