Broadband dual-polarized high gain lens antenna array for base station applications

A broadband dual-polarized high gain lens antenna array for macro-cell base station applications is proposed. Using the lens structure, high gain performance can be obtained and the horizontal half power beamwidth can be controlled. The proposed antenna array shows that wide operating bandwidth can be generated successfully to easily cover 1.71-2.69 GHz operating bands. Port-to-port isolation is better than -30 dB. The measured results show that the half power beamwidths in the horizontal plane and vertical plane are about 43°-56° and 9°-11°, respectively. The antenna gain can be enhanced to an acceptable level ranging between 16.0 and 17.5 dBi for the lens antenna array.
