Guest Editorial ISCAS 2016 Special Issue

This Special Issue of the IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Circuits and Systems comprises expanded versions of selected papers that were presented at the 2016 IEEE International Symposium of Circuits and Systems (ISCAS 2016). This premiere circuits and systems conference was organized in Montreal, Canada from May 22nd to May 25th, 2016 and attracted more than 1687 submissions out of which 46.3% of the papers were accepted for presentation at the conference. The main theme of the ISCAS 2016 was "Towards Innovative Nanosystems for Greater Well-Being" which is aligned with the focus of this transactions. Starting from a comprehensive list of papers that were presented at the Biomedical Circuits and Systems, Sensors, Neural Systems and Live demonstration sessions at the symposium, we selected ten papers which were highly rated by the ISCAS 2016 reviewers and which represented different areas of the biomedical circuits and systems. After a thorough peer review process, we short-listed a final set of five papers for this Special Issue which covers circuits and systems for neural prosthesis, portable biosensors and body-area communications. While there were undoubtedly many other excellent papers that were presented at the ISCAS2016, in this compilation we strived to include papers that cover diverse areas of interest to readers of this journal. The papers are briefly summarized here.
