Altering the tonometer chamber pressure to follow mean arterial pressure by oscillometric theory

Oscillometric theory has been widely applied in noninvasive measurement of blood pressure and it is now accepted that a maximum oscillation occurs when cuff pressure is equal to the mean arterial pressure (MAP). In the study, a fuzzy controller was designed to regulate the tonometer chamber pressure in order to follow the MAP, based on the maximum oscillometric theory. The authors found that at a MAP rate of 20 mm Hg/min, the mean and standard deviation of the difference between the desired MAP and chamber pressure were 0.012 and 0.152 mm Hg, respectively. It was concluded that MAP may be accurately estimated with a tonometer using fuzzy logic control (FLC).
